Attendance expectations online
Live lessons
- Pupils join the session at the scheduled time.
- Pupils follow teacher instructions, including turning a camera on when asked.
- Pupils take part appropriately.
Recordings
- Watching a recording can support learning, but it does not by itself replace required live participation unless the school says otherwise for that course.

Recording attendance and engagement
Session registers
- Staff record who attended each live group lesson, and where the platform allows it, who engaged through approved signals.
Engagement checks
- The school tracks consistent non-attendance and a falling level of engagement, rather than waiting for a term to end.

Absence procedure
Initial follow-up
- Where a pupil does not attend or engage, the school contacts the responsible adult using the agreed route and timescale, usually within one working day.
Escalation
- Repeated absence is escalated to the designated staff member, and to safeguarding where the pattern suggests a risk.
Child missing education
- Where the thresholds for child missing education are met, the school follows child missing education procedures to safeguard the pupil and identify any risk, including notifying the local authority where required.
