07 Behaviour Policy: Online Conduct and Sanctions
Version 1.0 · issued 31 October 2026 · next review 31 October 2027
Purpose
This policy sets out expectations for pupil behaviour in live group lessons and how behaviour concerns are handled online, including in recorded-learning environments.
Rules for pupils online
Respect and participation
- Pupils listen, follow instructions, and take part appropriately.
- Pupils use school-appropriate language in group chats.
- Pupils do not post bullying, harassment, harmful content or anyone's personal data.
Cameras
- Pupils may keep their cameras off by default.
- Pupils turn their cameras on when a member of staff asks them to.
- Refusing a camera instruction may lead to a behaviour sanction, following the stages below.
Recognition and encouragement
Pupils are encouraged through positive reinforcement, praise and feedback that is tied to what the course asks of them. Good effort is named publicly; mistakes are corrected kindly and privately where the child would prefer it.
Behaviour incidents in live sessions
Mild disruption
- A warning, a prompt to comply, and moderated participation, such as temporary removal of chat access.
Repeated disruption
- Escalation to the behaviour lead or the Designated Safeguarding Lead where relevant, and use of sanctions.
Serious incidents
- Immediate intervention, removal from the session where necessary, and a safeguarding referral if appropriate.
Sanctions
Sanctions are proportionate, explained to the pupil, and recorded. They may include:
- temporary withdrawal of live chat privileges;
- temporary removal from a live lesson, with a plan for a safe return;
- a meeting with parents and pupil, through the school's usual communication routes;
- a safeguarding response, immediately, where behaviour suggests harm or risk.
Online learning and recorded lessons
The same behaviour expectations apply when pupils watch recordings. Staff respond to bullying or abusive conduct reported from live lessons or from platform content.
Review
This policy is reviewed at least once a year and after a serious incident.
