13 Use of Images, Live Streaming and Recording Policy

Purpose

This policy sets clear rules for how the school captures, uses, stores and shares images and video in live lessons and recordings, so that pupils are protected.

Recording and image use

• Live lessons may be recorded for educational purposes.
• Recordings may include pupils' voices and visible features, depending on the camera instructions given.
• Pupils may keep cameras off by default, and turn them on when instructed.

Pupil expectations during recording

Pupils must not:

• take screenshots or screen recordings;
• attempt to download, share or re-upload recordings;
• share recordings outside the approved school environment;
• post recording material in chats or anywhere else online.

Pupils must follow staff instructions about cameras and participation straight away.

Access controls

• Pupils may view recordings afterwards, for revision and catch-up.
• Parents are not given access to recordings.
• Recordings are reachable only through approved pupil accounts.

Storage and security

Recordings are stored securely on systems the school has chosen and configured for access control. Public access is prevented and sharing permissions are kept as narrow as the purpose allows.

Privacy and minimisation

Staff will:

• avoid unnecessary close-ups of pupils;
• avoid capturing sensitive content wherever they can;
• remind pupils of appropriate behaviour before a session is recorded.

Consent and transparency

The school gives pupils and guardians clear information about recording and how recordings are used. Where consent is required for a specific use, it is obtained and recorded in line with data protection requirements, and can be withdrawn without a pupil losing access to their lessons.

Enforcement

A pupil who breaches the recording and privacy rules is dealt with as a serious online safety and behaviour matter. Sanctions may include removal of recording access and removal from live lessons, with safeguarding escalation where relevant.

Review

This policy is reviewed at least once a year and after any incident or platform change.
