10 Remote Learning and Virtual School Policy
Version 1.0 · issued 31 October 2026 · next review 31 October 2027
Purpose
This policy sets clear expectations for how learning is delivered online, covering live group lessons and pupil access to recordings.
Learning arrangements
Live group lessons
- Timetables are given to pupils and to families through the school's parent communication routes.
- Lessons are moderated and supervised throughout.
Recordings
- Recordings are provided for educational catch-up and revision.
- Recordings are accessible to pupils only; parents are not given access.
- Pupils must not share recordings outside the school platform.
Pupil participation expectations
- Cameras may be off by default, and are turned on when staff instruct.
- Group chat is used appropriately and only for learning.
- Work is submitted through the approved platform by the deadlines set.
Safeguarding during remote learning
Staff must remain in the session, deal with misuse quickly, and report any safeguarding concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately.
Pupils must not share personal information in chat, and must report harmful behaviour immediately.
Devices and access
The school gives guidance on the minimum technical requirements for each course. Where a pupil has access problems, the school agrees a support route with the family rather than letting the pupil fall behind.
SEND and reasonable adjustments
The school makes reasonable adjustments for remote learning needs, which may include materials in alternative formats, extra check-ins inside approved group settings, and accessible resources.
Recordings: privacy and appropriate use
- Recordings exist for learning review and progress support, and are kept only as long as those purposes require.
- Pupils must not re-upload, screenshot for personal distribution, or share recordings outside the school.
Review
This policy is reviewed at least once a year and after any remote learning incident.
