Looking for a GCSE tutor in East London? Live online GCSE classes compared
2 November 2026 · 5 min read · Growing Roots Academy
Families in Newham, Tower Hamlets, Redbridge, Barking, Havering and Waltham Forest often look for a GCSE tutor when exams get close, or when their child is home educated. Here is how to choose the right support.
One-to-one tutor or live GCSE classes?
A one-to-one tutor gives individual attention, but costs more per hour and usually covers a single subject. Live small-group GCSE classes follow the whole specification over the year, add classmates to learn alongside, and cost less per lesson. Many home-educated pupils use classes for the full course and a tutor only for extra help.
What to ask any GCSE tutor
- Which exam board and specification do you teach?
- Do you use past papers and timed practice?
- How will you report progress to parents?
- Are you DBS checked, and what are your safeguarding rules?
- Can you support a private candidate?
Home-educated? Plan your exam centre too
Home-educated pupils sit GCSEs as private candidates, so you also need an exam centre. Book 12–18 months ahead, as London places fill quickly. Our private-candidate GCSE guide explains each step.
